Juvenile hypertension - hypertension in children and adolescents - can be considered as a precursor of chronic hypertension in adult age. Treatment of hypertension in children and adolescents is always required. Non-pharmacological treatment should be attempted first, but some patients will require pharmacological treatment. Non-pharmacological measures are very important in this age group in helping to educate adolescent patients in terms of diet and life-style modifications. Early and adequate initiation of pharmacological therapy can help in prevention of progression of the disease. Beta-blockers are the most effective pharmacological agents in treating hypertension in this age group.
